FAQ's
What is special about the Dharmsala Tea Company teas?
Dharmsala Tea Company has been making fine, handcrafted teas since 1882. We, as sixth generation tea planters in the family, are proud to carry forward this heritage of producing only premium, high quality teas. Our tea single-origin, high grown Kangra tea, carefully hand-plucked from our own tea estates. This ensures that you know exactly where your tea is coming from. Our tea estates are an altitude of 4,000 to 6,500 ft, nestled in the Dholadhar mountain range of the Himalayas. Our tea estates are fed by the Himalayan winter snowfall and warm spring rains, as well as the thunderous monsoon rains. Being at such high altitudes also ensures that our tea gardens are pure, natural, and organic.
We adhere to best-in-class, ethical and sustainable farming, labour and environmental standards. After being carefully hand plucked in our tea gardens, the tea is produced in our own tea factory. It is then packed at source, vacuum sealed, so that the freshness of the tea is locked in, retaining the flavour, the aroma and a bit of the Himalayas for you when you first open your tea packets. Our mission in life is, not surprisingly, to bring the Himalayas to you, wherever in the world you might be.
How does DTC ensure the freshness of its tea?
We pick our teas directly from our own tea estates and immediately vacuum pack them the same day to ensure that they retain their freshness, aroma and flavour. The packing is done in our tea factory itself.
How do I know if you are selling authentic teas?
We are a family owned business, and are proud sixth generation tea planters. Our great-great-grand parents founded this company in 1882, almost 135 years ago! As we mentioned, we take extreme pride in maintaining our family heritage and the Dharmsala Tea Company brand.
We also maintain the highest industry standards of tea manufacturing, and are amongst only a few Indian tea companies that have the ISO 9001:2008 and the HACCP certifications. We also welcome you to come visit our tea factory and take a tour of the tea gardens as well.
Do you adhere to ethical standards for labour, environment and other related issues?
Yes, we absolutely do! We are extremely committed to maintaining the ecological balance in the mountains and forests that surround and feed our tea estates. We only use all organic inputs and ensure that we are continually feeding the soil. We are also cognisant of our role in the community and undertake several activities for the economic and social benefit of all those involved with our tea production (as well as their families). We believe that our commitment to our tea workers as well as the broader community in Dharmsala is one of the core underlying pillars of our business philosophy. Again, please visit us anytime to see all of this in practice yourselves.
I'd love to order. But I'm not sure if I will love it the way I love my current choice of tea.
No worries! We understand that tea is a very personal choice, and impacts how you feel during the day. You can order small quantities to begin with (as low as 25 of 50g depending on the tea) and then increase your order size over time!
How long does the delivery take?
We work with our delivery partners across the world to deliver our teas within 4-6 business days.
